Local SEO in the Tricity 2026: how a small business can overtake the big players in Google Maps

In September 2026, we checked Google results for several typical local queries on a phone, with the location set to Gdynia. For each of them, a map with three businesses appeared above the classic results. Below the map, large nationwide websites and agencies dominated. This is good news for small businesses from the Tricity, because different rules apply on the map than in the organic results.

Why the map is an opportunity for a small business

In the organic results, the website with the strongest domain usually wins. In the local pack, Google assesses three things:

  • Relevance: whether the Google Business Profile clearly says what the business does.
  • Distance: how far the business is from the person searching or from the place typed into the query.
  • Prominence: reviews, mentions of the business online, activity of the profile.

A company from Poznań or Warsaw may have an excellent page about Gdynia, but it does not have an office in Gdynia. You do. That cannot be made up for with budget.

A 30-day plan

Week 1: tidying up the Business Profile

  • The name exactly as in the register and on the sign. Adding keywords to the name risks suspension of the profile.
  • The most accurate primary category and two or three additional ones.
  • A description with the names of the places where you really work, and a list of services with short descriptions.
  • Opening hours, phone number and a link to the website with a UTM parameter, so that traffic from the maps is visible in the statistics.

Week 2: data consistency

Name, address and phone number must be identical in the Business Profile, in the website footer, on the contact page and in directories. In the Tricity, it is especially worth taking care of a listing in the business directory of the trojmiasto.pl portal, which itself appears high in the results for local service phrases.

Week 3: reviews

Ask current and former customers for a review and suggest that they describe the specific service and location. Reply to every review. Regularity is what counts: five reviews a month for half a year works better than thirty in one weekend.

Week 4: local content on the website

One solid subpage for each city in which you operate, instead of dozens of template pages. The page should include projects from that city, photos, a map with directions and reviews. This is what it looks like in practice in our case study of a Sopot restaurant, which went from visibility only for its own name to the TOP 3 for the most competitive phrases in Sopot.

The most common mistakes made by Tricity businesses

  1. One Business Profile for three cities. A Business Profile has one address. You serve Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot with your service area and the content on your website, not with fictitious addresses.
  2. Stock photos. Google and customers prefer real photos of the premises, the team and completed projects.
  3. No posts. A Business Profile in which nothing has happened for a year loses to an active one. One post a week is enough.
  4. Seasonality without preparation. Restaurants and accommodation in Sopot or Gdynia should update their Business Profile before the season, not during it.
  5. No measurement. Without tracking phone calls and forms, you do not know whether the map brings in customers.

How much it costs and when you see results

Local SEO is usually cheaper than nationwide SEO, because there is less competition, and results in the maps are often visible after a few weeks of systematic work. We describe the pricing details in the article how much SEO costs.
